"I think this part of the world has a really potent magic to it. That is something that has become essential to my worldview, and consequently what I strive for with music."

This project started as a trio playing traditional Americana, but over the years evolved into something much more difficult to classify. The sound is rich with Electric Resonator Guitar, violin, which has been described as a "fractured cubist painting," and a driving rhythm section of upright bass and drums. This project succeeds at experimenting musically, without losing accessibility. Marty O'Reilly & The Old Soul Orchestra is a folk project, a blues project, and a jam band without being traditional examples of any of those genres. Founded in 2012, the band has since developed a strong following throughout the west coast as well as much of Western Europe.
